Herrade Igersheim (CNRS, BETA) and Mathieu Lefebvre (Unistra, BETA) are the authors of the book chapter entitled “Experimentation in Economics” in “Experimentation in the Sciences: Comparative and Long-Term Historical Research on Experimental Practice”, published on April 30, 2024 by Springer Nature Switzerland.

Abstract:

According to some authors, experimental economics can be defined as “the use of experimentation as a method of investigation in economics.” In this chapter, after recalling some aspects of the emergence of experimental economics, we detail its principles and practices, highlighting the extent to which these differ from those employed by psychologists in order to try to overcome several shortcomings. We offer also two examples of games that highlight the complementarity between laboratory and field experiments.
