Call for applications – BETA /LORIA thesis offer
27 March 2025

A doctoral scholarship, funded by the IA ENACT cluster and the European ENSEMBLE consortium, is available for a thesis on the subject of “Cybercrime as an eco-system: rethinking macro/meso/micro modeling and techniques for investigating and preventing cyber threats”, under the co-direction of Professors Yamina Tadjeddine (BETA) and Jean-Yves Marion (Loria).
Context: This doctoral contract is part of a series of French and European research programs conducted by the LORIA (computer science) and BETA (economics and management sciences) laboratories. Specifically, the selected PhD candidate will contribute to advancing the European project ENSEMBLE, which aims to develop AI-based tools for detecting and tracking cybercrime. ENSEMBLE is a large-scale initiative designed to strengthen the capabilities of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and judicial authorities in combating cybercrime through cutting-edge, AI-driven technologies. The project responds to the growing threats posed by cybercriminal activities, which jeopardize the security and stability of the European Union’s digital ecosystem. As cybercriminals become increasingly sophisticated, there is an urgent need for innovative tools and strategies to effectively detect, investigate, and prosecute cybercrime. At the core of ENSEMBLE lies a strong interdisciplinary approach, integrating expertise from computer science, economics, and management sciences.
Profile: candidates with a Master’s degree combining economics and computer science, or candidates with a Master’s degree in one of the two disciplines and demonstrable skills in the other.
Application deadline: May 10, 2025
