Martin Cloutier (UQAM)
who will present his paper entitled
Revealing spatial correspondences between small and large cider producers in Quebec. An analysis of converging and diverging actions
Abstract: This seminar illustrates the potential of a methodological research approach based on group concept mapping (GCC), a mixed research approach (group discussions, multivariate methods), and randomized Procrustean analysis. Using the Quebec cider industry as a cases study, the spatial correspondences of the strategic development actions of small and large cider producers were studied and compared. The results reveal several converging and diverging actions between these two groups. More market-dependent, actions relating to the relationship with the state monopoly liquor authority in the sale of alcoholic beverages are central to the conceptualizations of large cideries. For small cider producers, actions related to certification and product quality are at the heart of their collective identity, while for large cider producers these considerations are conceptualized as organizational actions located at the cidery level. Small and large cideries show a converging spatial correspondence in terms of consumer communication actions. The nature of results produced using these methods may prove useful in examining meta-organizations in which tensions emerge between groups of actors operating in coopetitive environments.
