Event details :
The CHPE research group is offering a special seminar on Monday March 31, 2025, from 3 pm to 4:30 pm.
During this session, Professor Jean Arrous will present his book published in September 2024:
“Une initiation à l’économie avec Leontief.
Un outil pour la transition écologique et énergétique“
Abstract: This book introduces students to the work of Wassily Leontief, winner of the 1973 Nobel Prize in Economics, on input-output analysis.
This analysis describes the interdependence of economic activities based on their various branches (automotive, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, services, etc.)
Thus, to produce a car, you need steel, tires, glass and plastic; you also need labor. What’s more, to produce steel, other inputs are used, such as iron, electricity… and, in addition to the labor directly used by the carmaker, there is the indirect labor required to manufacture the steel, tires, glass and plastic.
The specificity of this analysis therefore lies in the fact that it takes into account technological data on production in the various branches of the production system, data that are now supplemented by pollution emissions and energy consumption.
This analysis leads to the determination of the labor-value, the direct and indirect labor content, of the various goods and services produced, and this also applies to the pollution-value and energy-value of goods.
