Article by Tom Bry-Chevalier published on The Conversation on 14 November 2024.
Tom Bry-Chevalier is a PhD student at BETA, working on his thesis on the environmental and economic challenges of alternative proteins under the supervision of Philippe Delacote (INRAE, CEC) and Romain Espinosa (CNRS).
In this article, he takes a look at flexitarianism and its environmental impact. While flexitarianism remains a vague concept that varies from one person to another, studies have shown that a real reduction in meat consumption can have a significant impact on the environment. However, the adoption of a flexitarian diet does not necessarily make it possible to respond to another social issue, that of animal welfare.
